Welcome to the student exhibition of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of Ionian University. The works presented here are from the course "Interactive Interventions in Public Space," taught by Angelos Floros, with the support of PhD candidate Martha Gogakos. The screening of the films was supported by the production company Fama. The event will take place at the Thespis Theater of the Center for Hellenic Culture in Astoria, New York, on Friday, June 21 at 8pm.

The places where we spend our childhood and adolescence hold a special place in our
hearts and significantly shape our identity. For students, returning to these familiar places
offers an opportunity for reflection and reassessment. Many students, now distant from the places where they grew up, see them with a sense of
nostalgia and romance, as do people of the diaspora. They recall the neighbourhoods
where they played with their friends, the schools where they took their first steps in
learning, and the family ties formed through pleasant and unpleasant daily moments.
At the same time, the experience of student life and the acquisition of new knowledge and
experiences allows students to see the places of their childhood and adolescence in a new
light. On returning, they become aware of the importance and influence that their family
and urban environment had on their development. This reappraisal lens can bring a new
appreciation of the cultural and historical heritage of these places, as well as the social and
economic challenges they face. Places of childhood and adolescence serve as fixed
reference points.

In summary, the students view the places where they spent their childhood and
adolescence with a variety of emotions, from nostalgia and reflection to responsibility,
optimism and pessimism. These places remain an important part of their identity as they
continue life's journey through education.

In this special action, selected student works of the undergraduate course 'Interactive
Interventions in Public Space' of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian
University, supervised by Angelos Floros, Assistant Professor of the Ionian University and
collaborator Martha Gogakou, PhD candidate of the Ionian University, are presented to the
Greeks of the diaspora.
