LOCKDOWN

LOCKDOWN frames a city in suspension and at the same time follows two parallel private rhythms during a period of quarantine. The film alternates between wide urban views, where buildings, wires and birds on lines form graphic patterns, and close, intimate shots that reveal the small rituals of everyday life. A restrained black and white aesthetic with strong contrasts heightens the sense of isolation and transforms public spaces into a painterly backdrop for personal narratives.
The structure relies on montage to connect two different lives through rhythmic contrast. Choices of shot scale, camera movement and cutting tempo become technical means to convey emotional shifts. The soundtrack, entirely arranged by Dimitris Pantelis, syncs with the editing to create tonal layers that range from ambient underscoring to pointed sonic details that emphasize the shallow or deep textures of particular scenes.
Created as an undergraduate project for the Art of Technical Images course during 2020-2021, the piece was conceived, shot and edited by Markella Floka, under the guidance of Raftopoulos Fotios and Tiligadis Konstantinos, with music by Dimitris Pantelis. Working within a documentary mode, the work explores how confinement reshapes time perception, spatial experience and everyday ritual through deliberate technical choices.
Visitors are invited to observe how montage and sound fold moments into one another, to sense the tension between shared urban emptiness and private solitude, and to reflect on how similar circumstances produce profoundly different inner lives.
