The sixth international conference Taboo–Transgression–Transcendence in Art & Science (TTT2025) has come to a close in Slovenia, after five days of intense exchange between artists, scholars, and members of diverse creative communities.
Hosted at Kino Šiška, the event was organized in partnership with Zavod Projekt Atol, the Ionian University, and the Pixxelpoint 2025 festival in the context of GO!2025 European Capital of Culture Nova Gorica–Gorizia, with contributions from Kapelica Gallery, Cirkulacija 2, and the Museum of Architecture and Design, and with the support of the Greek Embassy in Ljubljana, the Slovenian Ministry of Culture, the City of Ljubljana, and the University of Nova Gorica.
Marking the tenth anniversary of the initiative, TTT2025 combined academic sessions, roundtables, performances, and the exhibition Coining Utopias, curated by Jasna Jernejšek, which brought together artworks exploring new socio-ecological imaginaries.
Reflecting on the journey from Corfu 2016 to Ljubljana 2025, the Head of the Organizing Committee Prof. at the Dept. of Audio & Visual Arts Dr. Dalila Honorato, remarked: “To gather—whether in crisis or in creativity—is always an act of resistance, and an invitation to imagine futures otherwise.”.
Among the many highlights, Roundtable “Art as Target: Context, Consent, and Control” addressed the political misuse of artistic expression, the risks of decontextualization, and the urgent need to defend artistic freedom. The roundtable drew attention to the case of Maja Smrekar’s internationally acclaimed K-9 Topology project, recently misused in a far-right campaign in Slovenia—an unprecedented assault on her personhood and professional integrity. Alongside Jens Hauser, Mojca Kumerdej, and Ewen Chardronnet, Smrekar’s testimony made clear the stakes of reclaiming narrative agency in the age of weaponized aesthetics.
Proceedings from TTT2025 will be published in both a special issue of Technoetic Arts (Intellect) and the TTT2025 eBook of Proceedings (ISBN by Ionian University).
